The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has made a move against e-cigarettes disguised to look like everyday items and toys, reports Medical Xpress.

The agency sent warning letters to seven online retailers that were selling unauthorized vape devices designed to look like slushies, toys and phones. The FDA believes that the e-cigarettes’ design is appealing to youths, easier to conceal from adults and could be mistaken for an everyday object by young children, according to Medical Xpress.
“As we continue into the school year, it’s critical that parents, teachers and other adults are aware of illegal e-cigarettes deceptively packaged to look like everyday items,” Brian King, director of FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, said in an agency news release. “These types of products can be easily concealed and contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and can harm the developing adolescent brain.”
The retailers that have received the warning letters are selling or distributing e-cigarettes without the agency’s authorization and now have 15 working days to respond to the letter. They must state which steps they will take to correct the violations and prevent future violations, reports Medical Xpress. If they do not respond, the retailers could face injunctions, seizures and civil money penalties.
