General Tobacco has resolved a trademark dispute with rival Premier Manufacturing over the packaging of Premier's Wildhorse cigarette brand.
A federal court in Kentucky granted General Tobacco, the sixth-largest US cigarette manufacturer, a preliminary injunction preventing Premier's use of its Wildhorse packaging, according to a General Tobacco announcement. The judge ruled that the horse emblem on General's Bronco brand was well-established.
The terms of the settlement were reached after the judge's ruling, but were not disclosed. Ronald Denman, general counsel for General Tobacco, said the company was pleased to have an 'amicable resolution' to the issue.
General Tobacco also plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Miami, Florida to Mayodan, North Carolina within the next few months. The company had already announced in June that it would locate a factory there, eventually employing about 200 people. (pi)
