Health Canada said the government plans to introduce amendments to the Tobacco Act this autumn to create a legal framework for the sale of e-cigarettes and related vaping products.
The new rules will seek to “balance the need to protect youth from nicotine addiction and tobacco use while allowing adult smokers to legally access vaping products for smoking cessation or as a potentially less harmful alternative to tobacco,” Health Canada said. Additionally, Minister of Health Jane Philpott plans to host a national forum on the future of tobacco control early in 2017.
