More than 1,000 farmers blocked a road and set bales of tobacco on fire as protests that began early this year continued over alleged low prices offered growers for their crop, novinite.com reported.
Farmers in the oriental tobacco growing region near the Greek border have demanded a bottom price of BGN 6.50 (EUR 3.30) per kg as opposed to BGN 5 offered under a delayed purchasing campaign, the website reported. The latest protest took place in Garmen municipality, said novinite, the English-language site of Sofia News Agency.
