Flue-cured tobacco is selling at an average 13 cents more per kilo and volume sold at auction is almost 40 per cent more than last year, the Zimbabwe Herald reported.
More than 18 million kgs of tobacco have fetched an average price of USD 2.61 per kg (EUR 2.45) since market season began in mid-March, the newspaper said. At the same time last year, the average per kg price was USD 2.48, the newspaper said, citing data from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB).
This year’s rejection rate is about 7 per cent, according to data cited by the Herald. Top price so far has been USD 6 per kg.
