A study conducted by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco has found vapour from heated tobacco devices has a similar impact on heart health to smoke from combustible cigarettes, the Daily Mail reported.
In the study, rats exposed to vapour from “smokeless” tobacco devices [heated tobacco] showed 60 per cent reduced blood vessel activity after 10 5-second exposures over 5 minutes, similar to a 62 per cent reduction from cigarette smoke, according to the Daily Mail, which cited a presentation of the study’s findings at an American Heart Association conference in Anaheim, California.
Researchers assessed whether the vapour affected the rats’ ability to widen blood vessels in response to increased blood flow – a measure of blood vessel health which is used to measure heart health, the Daily Mail reported.
