The House Appropriations Committee voted to weaken Food and Drug Administration authority over vaping products in a measure that would exempt products currently on the market from FDA pre-market review, the Associated Press said.
Some premium and large cigars also would be exempted, the AP said. The legislation is contained in the appropriations bill covering spending by the Department of Agriculture and FDA in the next federal budget. Two previous attempts to weaken FDA control over vaping products by the same method were unsuccessful. E-cigarettes and cigars have been regulated tobacco products since 2016.
