Juul CEO responds to cases of e-cig related illness

In a recent interview, Kevin Burns, Juul Labs CEO, has said that the growing number of lung illness cases in people who vape is worrisome, CBS reported.

In his first broadcast interview with Tony Dokoupil, Burns was quoted as saying that these cases are not only “Worrisome for the category,” but also “Worrisome for us if we contributed to it.”
The Centers for Disease Control is investigating the roughly 200 possible cases of lung disease that could be related to the use of e-cigarettes and is in close contact with Juul. Cases of the disease have been reported in at least 22 US states, according to the report.
“We'd like to get all the specifics that we can…,” Burns added. “We want to make sure we have access to the information, so if there’s any issue that was driven, associated with us, that we can get to the root cause and understand that.”
In the interview, co-host Tony Dokoupil was quoted as asking Burns, “Why not take a pause? “Why not say, ‘We’ve got nearly 200 people hospitalised with lung illnesses tied to vaping. We’re the biggest seller of this stuff. Let’s just take a timeout till we figure out what’s going on?’”
Burns responded to question, saying, “Well, I don’t know if it’s tied to vaping even associated with nicotine products, “Most of the early reports have indicated it’s related to THC.
“Most of them that have any specifics have said they’re related to THC.
“We don’t have the details on all those reports. If there was any indication that there was an adverse health condition related to our product, I think we’d take very swift action associated with it.”
Burns said that the company would keep its products on the market “until we see some facts.”
