Juul Labs has submitted a premarket tobacco product application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking authorization for a new e-cigarette, reports Reuters.
The new e-cigarette, called JUUL2 System, has an app to prevent underage access and a unique Pod ID chip that will not allow counterfeit cartridges to be used. The device was launched in Britain in 2021 and now Juul Labs is seeking to sell tobacco-flavoured pods at a nicotine concentration of less than 2 per cent, according to Reuters.
Juul is currently involved in a struggle with the FDA to get its existing products approved after the agency banned its current products. Juul managed to prevent the initial ban and is now pursuing an appeal of the FDA’s stayed decision. Despite the current situation, Juul is looking to move ahead with its latest invention and intends to pursue additional filings to expand its e-cigarette alternatives, a company spokesperson told Reuters.
