The government of Bangladesh is to impose a ten per cent tariff on the export of leaf tobacco, according to The Daily Star.
Officials at the National Board of Revenue were quoted as saying that the tariff, which will be included in the next budget, was being imposed to discourage the production of tobacco. The officials claimed tobacco cultivation had affected farmlands adversely and was threatening food security. (pi)
