Nearly 41.8 million kilogrammes of tobacco have been sold at an average price of USD 3.13 (EUR 2.27) since the marketing season began 19 Feb, the online news service Bulawayo24 said.
Sales to date have earned USD 130.6 million compared with USD 126.3 million in the same time frame last year, when volume was 43.1 million kgs. Most of this year’s volume, 28.9 million kgs, was sold under contract, Bulawayo24 said, citing data from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board. The remainder was sold at auction. This year’s government target is 170 million kgs.
