Pullen, the former chairman and CEO of R J Reynolds International who died on July 30, 1997; he was 68 years old. A native of London, Lester Pullen joined R J Reynolds in 1967 as marketing manager – Europe. He was promoted to area manager – Europe and the Middle East in 1969 and to corporate development director in 1970. In 1972, he was named area director – Asia/Pacific and was elected vice president – Asia/Pacific and Latin America in 1974. In January 1980, he was promoted to chairman, president and chief executive officer of RJR Macdonald Inc, the Canadian subsidiary of R J Reynolds. In January 1982, Pullen was elected president and CEO of R J Reynolds International. He was named chairman and CEO of RJR International in 1986. Mr Pullen retired from the company in December 1989.
