In order to make Milan greener and more sustainable, the Italian city is to ban outdoor smoking, reports Forbes.

Starting 1 January 2021, it is going to be prohibited to smoke in public places such as parks, bus and tram stops, children play areas and dog areas, cemeteries and stadiums, including its well-known Meazza-San Siro, and generally within a 10 meter radius from other people. Starting 2025, the ban on smoking will be extended to all public places.
The new rule, named “regulation for air quality”, is aimed at “reducing Pm10, meaning the polluting particles harmful for the lungs, and the report said.
The regulation includes other restrictions such as the ban on diesel heating sysrems, the obligation for shops to keep their doors closed from 2022 and the need to equip all petrol stations with charging stations for electric cars from 2023. The regulation has been brought forward from the original date of 2030, Forbes said.
