New rules have been implemented in Portugal which means smoking will only be allowed in restaurants, bars and clubs that measure larger or exactly 100 square metres with a mininum ceiling height of 3 metres, reports The Portugal News.  

Law 154/2022 of the Ministries of Economy and Sea and Health is now in force and includes rules for spaces intended for smokers. These “can be constituted up to a maximum of 20% of the area intended for customers” and must bear a sign stating “no entry for persons under 18 years of age” as well as information regarding maximum capacity.
“In catering or drinking establishments, including those with rooms or spaces intended for dancing, places where smoking is allowed in areas intended for customers may be set up, provided that these establishments have an area for customers equal to or greater than 100 m2 and a minimum ceiling height of 3 m”, the new law reads.
