Oregon was on path to become the third US state to raise the legal for purchasing tobacco products to 21 following lower house approval, KGW television reported.
The Oregon Senate passed the measure in March and it now awaits the signature of Governor Kate Brown, a strong backer of anti-smoking measures, KGW said on its website. California and Hawaii have raised the legal age. Final approval in Oregon would raise the current minimum age of 18 from next January, the TV station said.
