The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Smoking and Health, an informal body of Parliament said the tax on tobacco products should be increased by 5 per cent more than annual inflation instead of the current 2 per cent, the BBC said.
Funds from higher taxes should be earmarked for anti-smoking projects, the informal group reportedly recommended. A report containing the recommendation will become part Treasury’s Comprehensive Spending Review, the BBC said.
