Legislation to ban the sale of e-cigarettes and bring Poland up to date with new European Union directives is being advanced, reports Polskie Radio.
Dariusz Poznański, director of the Polish Health Ministry’s Department of Public Health, said that the department was planning to target disposable e-cigarettes in order to align Poland with the EU’s 2022 directive aimed at cracking down on novel tobacco products.
The legislation would eliminate flavours in novel heated tobacco products, adhering strictly to EU guidelines, reports Polskie Radio. It would also allow the Bureau of Chemical Substances to mandate further testing or information from manufacturers and importers of these products in order to assess their impact on the market and health implications, according to Polskie Radio. A total ban on e-cigarettes is being developed in a separate proposal.
“We are working on this at the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance, to ensure the regulations are comprehensive,” Poznański said.
If the law comes into being, those distributing products illegally could face fines of up to PLN 200,000 (USD 50,000) or criminal penalties, according to Polskie Radio.
