PMI gives up cigarettes in the UK

In full-page adverts ran in numerous newspapers across the UK, Philip Morris International (PMI) has said it will try to stop selling cigarettes in the UK as a New Year’s resolution for 2018, Business Insider UK reported.

The multinational ran full-page adverts promoting British nationals to quit smoking and to switch to alternative products, Business Insider UK reported. The company advert suggests that e-cigarettes and heated tobacco “are a better choice for the millions of men and women in the UK who would otherwise not stop smoking”.
The company advert states they plan to “launch a website and campaign to provide smokers with information on quitting and on alternatives to cigarettes”. PMI said it will also try to get government approval to insert information on quitting and on switching to alternative products in cigarette packets. Until now, the firm has invested GBP 2.5 billion in research and development in alternative products, according to the advert. Furthermore, PMI said it plans to make alternative products more available in the UK.
In the advert, the firm also introduced a new website dedicated to helping smokers quit, Business Insider UK reported. The website can be found here
