A one-euro increase in the price of cigarettes has brought the average price of packs sold in France to EUR 8 (USD 9.80), The Associated Press reported.
The price increase is the first in a series of planned hikes through which the French government plans to bring the price of cigarette packs sold in the country to EUR 10 before the end of 2020.
The Associated Press reported that about 28 per cent of France’s adult population smokes and said manufacturers estimate a decline in sales in the country of 10-15 per cent in 2018.
