As of 20 August India has banned the manufacture and sale of gutkha containing tobacco mixed with beetle nut, according to a report by DNA India.

Gutkha manufacturers will now have to sell tobacco and beetle nut in separate pouches.
The ban is the result of a recent amendment to a food adulteration act, which prohibits mixing tobacco and any other nicotine products with food.
