The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) proposed charging e-cigarette makers and importers an initial GBP 220 (EUR 293) per product for processing notifications allowing them to remain on the market after the industry becomes regulated on 20 May, 2016.
MHRA also proposed an annual GBP 60 per product charge to meet EU reporting and compliance regulations for e-cigarettes in the revised Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), and a GBP 110 fee when existing products are modified. The regulatory body said it reserves a final decision pending results of a public consultation, which invites public input until 29 Jan.
MHRA estimates its costs in the initial year at GBP 600 million, and GBP in subsequent years. Notification requests must be checked for accuracy and compliance, the agency said. The proposed fees apply to vaping paraphernalia marketed as consumer goods. MHRA’s notification system will be electronic, and connected to an EU portal. Additional information is available at:
