Canada’s Competition Bureau is pushing for a more competitive legal cannabis industry to safeguard it from illicit market activity, reports Reuters.
In order to make the legal market more competitive the Competition Bureau has put together several recommendations such as the review of the cannabis licensing process and related costs, adjustments in THC limits for edible cannabis products, and easing of restrictions on cannabis promotion, packaging and labelling, reports Reuters.
According to Statistics Canada., cannabis users in Canada spent CAD 4.52 billion (USD 3.38 billion) on cannabis products in 2022.
The recommendations made by the Competition Bureau have been submitted to Health Canada and an expert panel as response to a legislative review of the federal Cannabis Act.
