A drive to repeal San Francisco’s recently enacted ban on flavoured tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes, has collected enough signatures to put the issue before city voters as a referendum, the Department of Elections said.
Let’s Be Real San Francisco, a coalition of grocers and vape shop owners reportedly funded by tobacco money, and the advocacy group Not Blowing Smoke support the ballot initiative. San Francisco can either reconsider and withdraw its flavour ban or put the issue to voters, which likely would occur in July, 2018, Let’s Be Real said on its website.
