As of Saturday, Iran has implemented a smoking ban in all public places, hotels, restaurants, tea houses and coffee shops.
Water-pipe smoking has also been forbidden. The police has been ordered to first issue a warning to violators of the law. After repeated violations, a temporary closing or even permanent closing of the premises will be enforced.
However, observers expect that the ban will be widely ignored, as was the case with the nationwide smoking ban for all car drivers which was implemented last March. (pi)
