Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) acquired Toraño Family Cigar Company in a bid to strengthen the position of its US subsidiary, General Cigar, the company said.
Toraño is a premium cigar company based in the US with a Cuban heritage. General Cigar, based in Richmond, Virginia, is the leading manufacturer and marketer of handcrafted cigars in the US, and exports selected products to 62 countries, STG said. Snus maker Swedish Match owns a 49 per cent stake in Denmark-based STG, the world’s largest manufacturer of cigars and pipe tobacco.
