A new law controlling the sale of tobacco products and smoking will take effect 1 January 2018, Xinhua reported.

The special administrative region's Health Service Bureau announced the New Tobacco Control Act recently, Xinhua reported.
The law prohibits smoking 10 metres within the vicinity of bus stops, taxi stands and non-smoking indoor areas. This law does not extend to designated smoking rooms in airports and casinos, where smoking is still authorised. The fine for smoking in these non-smoking locations has also been increased from MOP 600 (EUR 61.9) to MOP 1,500 (EUR 154.8).
“The new law forbids the exposure of tobacco products in selling outlets. It is also prohibited to sell tobacco products in casinos,” Xinhua reported. Advertising, promoting and selling e-cigarettes is also banned.
The bureau stated that the law was created to protect the health of the youth and public and to help lower e-cigarette and tobacco consumption in Macau, according to Xinhua.
