The Tobacco Board has fixed the 2007 crop size in Karnataka at 95 million kg, and for Andhra Pradesh, India's other tobacco-growing state, at 150 million kg of flue-cured tobacco.
Tobacco auctions in Karnataka are set to commence the first week of September. According to a Tobacco Board official, harvest is under progress in all tobacco growing regions and the production level is expected to remain at last year’s level of 97 million kg.
In 2006, the Karnataka's tobacco crop size was fixed at 83.27 million kg, but owing to the good quality of the crop, 97 million kg was produced and sold.
