The Tobacco Board has decided to re-impose penalties on growers in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka who produce more flue-cured tobacco than has been authorised.
A day after increasing the total authorised quantity of tobacco growing in the state by 12 million kg, Tobacco Board Chairman J. Suresh Babu said that his board would write to the Ministry of Commerce to seek permission to re-impose a penalty of INR 2.00 (EUR 0.03) per kg and 15 per cent of sale proceeds. (pi)
