Altria, Reynolds American and Lorillard voluntarily withdrew a suit filed against the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) attempt to require companies seek regulatory body approval for packaging modifications, the Wall Street Journal said.
A court filing in the US District Court for Washington DC states the suit is being withdrawn because FDA has decided to review the policy, the newspaper said on its website. The suit filed in April states FDA exceeded its authority by seeking to regulate changes such as colour on packaging or alterations to a log like adding the words “premium tobacco,” the Journal said.
