Politicians in Guernsey have approved the 2022 budget that includes tax and duty increases on tobacco, alcohol and petrol, reports BBC News.
As expected, Guernsey’s budget for 2022 has been approved by the Guernsey States and will see tobacco duty rise by 7.5 per cent. Tax on Real Property (TRP) and alcohol and fuel duties will rise by 4 per cent – above a 2.5 per cent anticipated inflation rate, according to BBC News. In accordance with inflation, the tax-free personal allowance will increase by GBP 300.
"It's only been a morning's debate and I expected a little bit longer. I'm delighted though and I think it reflects that we've done things differently and everyone knew what to expect and there weren't a lot of contentious issues," Deputy Mark Helyar, treasury lead, said.
