Increases in special consumption taxes on selected consumer goods including tobacco products will boost the minimum duty on a pack of cigarettes 16 per cent to TRY 3.75 (EUR 1.26), Reuters reported.
Consumption taxes were hiked on new cars, alcoholic drinks and mobile telephones. The increases were announced 1 Jan via a brief statement in the Official Gazette that did not explain why taxes were being raised or how much revenue they would produce, the news agency said.
