Sweden remains adamant that the use of snus should be allowed throughout the European Union, according to reported remarks by Trade Minister Ewa Björling.

“We will continue to fight,” she told the TT news agency in a story carried on The Local website. “I’m not going to give up because I think the ban is unfair,” she reportedly said.
A survey of member states by the European Commission indicates a clear majority in favour of an EU ban on all smokeless products, according to the story. It adds not all member states have responded.
Sweden negotiated an exception to the snus ban when it joined the EU in 1995. Successive Swedish governments have pressed the EU to lift the ban. (pi)
