Holidaymakers from the UK are taking full advantage of duty free and are stocking up on cigarettes and alcohol while on summer vacation in Europe, according to Bloomberg.
Since Brexit, anyone travelling from the UK to countries in the European Union are able to shop duty free, which can lead to huge savings on tobacco and alcohol products. Europe’s largest duty-free operator Dufry AG reportedly saw gains of 50 to 100 per cent in the sales of tobacco and alcohol in the past days, reports Bloomberg. This has also been seen as a positive sign for the travel industry, indicating the UK is slowly opening up and people are travelling abroad. According to Bloomberg, Heathrow airport reported a 74 per cent year-on-year jump in July passengers.
