UNITAB, the European association of tobacco growers, will meet in Budapest under a ‘Retain the Jobs’ banner to emphasize threats to their livelihoods posed by international regulation.
Delegates meeting from Oct 18-20 will discuss future reforms of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). In addition to EU regulation, the World Health Organization is seeking to limit tobacco production and thereby livelihoods, UNITAB said in a statement.
“This congress must ensure that the European tobacco growing sector gets back on its feet,” UNITAB said. (ci)
