Processing green leaf tobaccos by the Polish subsidiary of Philip Morris International has been turned over to the local unit of Universal, the leaf merchant said.
Universal Leaf Tobacco Poland has been supplying Philip Morris Polska (PMP) with processed leaf since 1 Sept. The tobacco comes from PMP’s grower base in Poland. Processing of the current crop is expected to continue through April, 2016.
“The strength, efficiency, and security of the leaf supply chain is vital to our success and to the success of our customers, and thus, we are committed to the sustainability of our grower communities,” said Universal Chief Executive Officer George Freeman. “The supply chain in Poland will be enhanced for all stakeholders through improved processing efficiencies."
