Zimbabwe has exported USD 557.11 million worth of tobacco so far, up 21 percent from USD 462.29 million in the same period last year, Pindula reports.
According to the latest Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) report, Zimbabwe has exported 122.92 million kilograms (kg) of tobacco, compared to 115.70 million kg in the same period of 2021.
Most of Zimbabwe’s semi-processed tobacco is exported to the Far East, the European Union, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Sales to the Far East brought in USD 485.2 million, followed by the European Union (USD 118.4 million), and Africa (102.3 million).
The TIMB also reported that prices for the golden leaf in the international market increased from USD 4.00 per kg in 2021 to USD 4.53 in 2022.
In 2021, Zimbabwe generated USD 819.7 million from the export of 183.6 million kg of tobacco.
