Revenue officers at Dublin Port seized the cigarettes that are estimated to be worth a retail value of EUR 6.9 million, reports The Journal.

The illegal cigarettes seized at Dublin Port branded “Kingdom” originated in Bulgaria and were found with help of the Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner. The seizure, which was part of the Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products, saw officers discover 9.2 million cigarettes worth around EUR 6.9 million in retail value, according to The Journal. The potential loss to the Exchequer is thought to be around EUR 5.4 million.
“Today as a result of routine profiling and with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner and detector dog Kelly, Revenue officers seized 9.2 million cigarettes at Dublin Port,” a spokesperson said.
