Nine people, led by the former director of the National Medical Center Park Jae-Gahb, have asked the constitutional court to review the tobacco law which they say infringes people's rights to health and happiness, reports AFP.

The petition against the tobacco law, which governs the manufacture and sale of cigarettes, was filed Wednesday.
"The harmfulness of cigarettes has been scientifically proven, but the government allows their production, sales and import rather than trying to find solutions to protect its citizens' health," said a statement from the group. The constitution guarantees a right to health, it said, adding that cigarettes are as addictive as opium and should be treated accordingly. 
A court official said the petition is the first of its kind in the world. It was unclear when the court would make a ruling. (pi)
