Bermuda will introduce an island-wide smokefree workplace law in 2006 if it is approved by the Senate, following its acceptance in the House of Assembly yesterday. Senators are expected to discuss the proposal when they meet next week.
Apart from the smoking ban, the government also seeks to outlaw cigarette vending machines and the selling of tobacco products to those under 18.
Tougher health warnings on cigarette packs and an end to tobacco advertising at sporting events are also included in the Tobacco Products (Public Health) Amendment Act. (pi)
