Poland's ministry of finance plans to raise the excise duty for tobacco products in January by an average of 13 per cent.
As of15 January 2007 excise duty will increase for cigarettes and cigars. Other kinds of tobacco, including pipe tobacco, will not be affected.
The increase is part of EU regulations that require Poland to adopt its excise duty for tobacco products to the minimal level in the EU (Euro 64 for 1,000 cigarettes) until the end of 2008. The ministry of finance estimates that the increase will generate PLN 1.2 billion (Euro 314.7 million) of additional revenues in 2007. (pi)
