On 1 May 2022, the price of a pack of cigarettes in Austria will go up again, reports Voralberg Online.

On 1 April 2022, the tobacco tax was increased – now apparently all suppliers are passing on the increased costs to their customers.
Already on 15 April, Imperial Tobacco raised the prices for a pack of cigarettes by EUR 0.20. This affects brands like Gauloise or JPS, among others. On 1 May, BAT will follow suit and also raise prices: Then, for example, a pack of Lucky Strike will cost EUR 5.50 instead of 5.30 and Pall Mall will cost 5.30 instead of 5.10. The same will probably apply to Marlboro, which will then break the 6 euro per pack mark. JT has already increased its prices on 1 April. The Benson and Hedges Gold brand even became EUR 0. 50 more expensive per pack. The prices for heets are also to rise, the report said.
In 2021, the state took in around EUR 2.1 billion (2.7 billion with VAT) through tobacco tax. In 2020, it was 2.6 billion. About every fifth Austrian smokes.
