The Karnataka High Court vacated a stay on regulations that require more than doubling the warnings on tobacco packaging to 85 per cent, clearing the way for implementation this April, the Indian Express reported.
Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Rules were issued on 15 Oct, 2014, and the Indian government originally planned the changes to take effect from 1 April, 2015. Warnings must cover both the front and back of packaging, with pictorials accounting for 60 per cent and text warnings 25 per cent.
