Imperial Tobacco has taken its challenge of planned Scottish restrictions on retail cigarette displays and vending machines to the Supreme Court, The Journal reported.
Imperial says reducing shop displays is anti-competitive and impinges on the right of adults to make choices, The Journal reported on its website. Imperial also said Scotland does not have authority to impose the restrictions under terms of power devolvement that grant Scotland local autonomy, according to The Journal.
Display restrictions in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are not as strict as those planned for Scotland. England has banned vending machines for tobacco products since 2011. (pi)
