Imperial Tobacco plans to close its cigarette factory in Bishkek due to overcapacity, according to the Times of Central Asia.
Citing a Kyrgyz government announcement, the website said Imperial subsidiary Reemstma Cigarettenfabriken invested USD 60 million (EUR 44 million ) in the Bishkek factory after entering the local market in the late 1990s. The facility reportedly exports to Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia. However small production runs in Bishkek no longer justify available capacity, according to the website.
