The Health Ministry announced new proposals to control tobacco use that include raising taxes on vaping products to the level of cigarettes, Yonhap news agency reported.

Pictorial warnings and advertising restrictions would be imposed on e-cigarettes. Nine-of-10 Korean e-cigarette users also smoke, which means vaping only serves to increase nicotine consumption, the ministry reportedly said.
Traditional cigarette sales in packs of less than 20 would be banned and tobacco advertising prohibited near schools. The ministry said it would push to relocate pictorial warnings to the upper part of cigarette packs, according to Yonhap. Deliberately hiding pictorial warnings on store shelves would be prohibited. The measures require National Assembly approval.
