Persons younger than 21 years of age would be barred from purchasing tobacco products under a bill planned by Duma lawmaker Sergei Poddubny, the news agency Tass reported.
Poddubny also plans to put a review of recent anti-tobacco measures before the lower house in its current session, which began 10 Nov, Tass said. Measures that include a ban on smoking in public places are not working properly, Poddubny reportedly said.
Although at least one Duma lawmaker voiced support for raising the tobacco purchase age, previous bills to increase the minimum age from 18 to 21 for tobacco and alcohol sales have not been approved, Tass reported.
