The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to prohibit the use of e-cigarettes in most workplaces and a number of public areas, including parks and some beaches in the city, according to a newspaper report.

LA became the latest in a line of US municipalities to take a stand on the controversial topic of vaping in public places. Following in the footsteps of Chicago and New York, the new regulations will treat e-cigarettes like conventional cigarettes, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The Council voted 14-0 in favour of the ban, and rejected a proposed amendment which would have exempted bars and nightclubs from the new regulations.

Unregulated in the US, the Food and Drug Administration is expected to propose extending its tobacco product authority to e-cigarettes and their derivatives.
