The Health Ministry has banned smoking of e-cigarettes in offices and closed spaces as well as blocking websites that advertise or promote electronic tobacco products, reports the Khaleej Times.
In light of World No Tobacco Day, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has banned the smoking of e-cigarettes in offices and closed spaces across the UAE. The federal law also prohibits the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18, smoking in private cars with children under 12 present, smoking in educational institutions, health and sports facilities as well as houses of worship. It also forbids the advertisement and promotion of tobacco products and automatic vending equipment and devices for tobacco distribution inside the country, reports the Khaleej Times.
According to the National Health Survey, the prevalence of tobacco smoking in adults has declined from 11.1 per cent in 2010 to 9.1 per cent in 2018. However, doctors in the UAE have warned that e-cigarettes could create a new generation of smokers.
