Danish tobacco company Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni plans to shut down its Oslo factory and move production to its own facility in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Cigarette production had been cut by 30 per cent and tobacco production by 50 per cent since Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni (SK) took over 230-year old Tiedemanns Tobaksfabrik in 1998, reported the Norwegian daily, Aftenposten. Management estimated that half of the tobacco plant's 266 workers would be made redundant by 2008.
SK’s revenues last year amounted to around NOK 1.3 billion, or about US€ 210 million.
