Parliament approved a display ban for tobacco products in most retail outlets beginning next year, The Straits Times reported.
Products that must be removed from view include cigarettes, cigars, beedis and loose tobacco leaves. Tobacconists will be allowed to display product as long as it is not visible from outside, the newspaper said on its website. Duty-free sales currently are exempt.
Legislators also tightened restrictions on Internet advertising of tobacco products, including banning adverts that originate in Singapore, the newspaper said.
